The Nebelung is a new species of cat , though many veteran cat breeders are beginning to believe it
is a species in its own right.

The breed is named after the first true specimen of this breed by the same name. Its parents were called Siegfried and Brunhilde, both names belonging to the main characters in the Germanic medieval saga "The Nibelungenlied." From a genetic standpoint, this species has been best described as the semi-longhaired version of a Russian Blue. Because this species is still so new, finding a Nebelung cat to own is very difficult and a prospective owner will likely have to find a cat breeder and wait for kittens.

A Nebelung is a medium sized cat typically between 8 and 12 pounds with the females being a little smaller and thinner than the males. They have a long spine and limbs, with fine bones and firm muscles. The lines of both bone and muscle are obscured by the coat to prevent the animal from looking thin.

The Nebelung’s fur coat is a distinct hallmark of its species. The fur will be between 1 1/2 and 2 full inches long. The color is an absolute necessity in order for it to be a Nebelung. Each individual hair will be a deep blue-grey with a silvery tip.

The Nebelung has a head that has been described as cobra-like. The skull itself is very broad but not at all deep. The ears that rest far to the back of the cat’s skull and curve slightly forward. Widely spaced green eyes look a bit like that of a Korat cat. However the Korat’s body type and skull shape are entirely different from the Nebelung. Excellent family cat.
